A Better Quality of Life for the Same Money
Many people still think of buying property in Spain as some kind of distant dream. It’s too far away. It’s too complicated. It’s too expensive.
But by 2026, the question may no longer be whether you can afford Spanish real estate, but rather where you can get more out of LIFE for the same amount of money.
A few years ago, most people automatically assumed that the price of a beachfront apartment would far exceed that of a property in Hungary. Today, however, more and more buyers are realizing that in certain regions of Spain, the price difference is nowhere near as great as they might think.
In Tata or Tatabánya, the price per square meter for newly built apartments typically ranges between 1 and 1.3 million forints, but in many districts of Budapest and in popular towns around Lake Balaton, prices can be significantly higher. Meanwhile, in several cities along the Costa Blanca or in certain parts of the Costa del Sol, you can already find newly built apartments that come with a terrace, a pool, parking, well-maintained communal areas, and a year-round Mediterranean lifestyle.
Distance doesn’t mean the same thing anymore
Many people say, “Sure, but Spain is far away.” Is that really true?
Alicante or Málaga can be reached from Budapest in about three to four hours by direct flight. That’s often less time than we spend in a car during a longer business trip or a weekend getaway. And thanks to low-cost airlines, in many cases the price of a plane ticket isn’t even higher than the cost of gas and tolls for a long weekend trip within Hungary.
In today’s Europe, owning a beachfront property no longer means constant travel or complicated planning. Rather, it means that a different way of life is just a few hours away.
Who takes care of the property when you’re not there?
This is one of the most common questions asked by those considering buying a property abroad for the first time.
In most popular coastal areas, professional property management companies now operate. They handle key handoffs, cleaning, maintenance, guest reception, and even short-term rentals. In many cases, the owner can monitor all of this online from Hungary.
In other words, maintaining a property in Spain is now much less location-dependent than it was a few years ago.
More Than Just a Vacation Home
Overseas real estate is no longer necessarily just a vacation home.
More and more people are choosing it as a second home, for winter stays, remote work, or to move there for longer periods. The Mediterranean climate, more than 300 days of sunshine a year, the well-developed infrastructure, and the international environment offer an attractive alternative for many.
Many people aren’t buying property in Spain because they want to move away from Hungary. Rather, they want a place where they can recharge, work, or simply slow down a bit at any time.
What Do Investors See Today?
In recent years, international demand has grown steadily in the Costa Blanca and Costa del Sol regions. It’s not just tourists who are coming, but also families, retirees, and remote workers who choose the Mediterranean lifestyle year-round.
This demand is evident in both the rental and resale markets. Of course, no investment is risk-free, and the Spanish real estate market is no exception. At the same time, for many European buyers today, a property in Spain is just as natural a part of wealth-building as an apartment in Hungary once was.
Distance May Not Be an Issue
Perhaps it’s time to frame the question differently.
The question isn’t whether Spain is too far away, but what quality of life you get in return for the same amount of money.
Because distance might not be a problem.
It might actually be the solution!
